CNAO @ Jul 2012

Aim

Changed:
<
<
  • Target? PMMA
  • Particle rates? Up to GHz. We are going to need ~ 1 MHz. Seems to be feasible: degrader can be added and we are also building a collimator.
>
>
  • Redo the Catania/GSI measurements on proton beam on PMMA target.
  • Several angles have to be tested: 90 deg, 60 deg, 75 deg
Beam structure. Spill to Spill 3-4 seconds. Spill lasts for 1 second. We are going to study that with the scope
Changed:
<
<
Beam Energy: need of a too long PMMA ... now we have 10-22 cm... Beam Spot 0.9 -- 1.1 cm...
>
>
Beam Energy: Computed by simulations (table from G. Battistoni is available)

Changed:
<

TPS that have to be prepared.

When?

Deleted:
<
<
  1. STILL a DRAFT
  2. First night: Take 1 PMMA cylinder and I see what happens varying the angle.Publish fluxes of protons from PMMA. I want to give 1 Gy (treatment like).
Measurements:
  1. We are going to redo Catania: different energies and different angles.

When? [Draft for time plan]

Changed:
<
<
Februrary 9 -12 ... For 2 nights.... (16 hours).
  • Thursday (9/2) we star, but friday morning we go back to stealth [patient being treated]: during the night we try to calibrate everything!
    1. With Radioactive sources we calibrate LYSOs and NAIs, with beam (if possible) we calibrate the Beam Monitor
  • Friday we install everything on the final geometry.
  • Saturday and Sunday we take data
Calibrations: when?
  • Detectors should be already calibrated, we measure a reference point on the final setup on thursday night.

July 20 - 22 .
  • July 20: mounting + first minutes of beam + calibration with source
  • July 21: 4 hours of beams... found that the SC are not behaving properly
  • July 21-22 night: 8 hours of datataking. First hourse devoted to SC replacement, then few hours at different angles/depths/energies.
Calibrations:
  • Lyso0 and Lyso1 have been calibrated with Co60 and Eu152
  • t0s for the chambers can be obtained by all the runs together....
Deleted:
<
<
  • Thursday night we need (beam) time to
    1. Acquire t0s for BM
    2. check that ST relations are fine
    3. Calibrate NaI?
    4. Calibrate LYSO?

Where?

Changed:
<
<
Hall 1. Control room 3m out of corridoio (needed to check cables lenght).
>
>
Hall 1. Control room 3m out of corridoio.

Changed:
<
<
  • Long Cables can exit from experimental hall: to be checked as a function of cable thickness.
>
>
  • Patch Panel available to read signals in control room..
Deleted:
<
<
  • There are several IN<->OUT from hall to control room: a complete list of signals that we want outside should be made and Xcheked with available connections

GAS

Ar/CO2

  • We need to bring the premixed bottle
  • Exhaust is ok.

Mechanics

  • Rec for electronics? Arrived/mounted... We will bring it.
  • Needs to finalize the choice for the mechanical structure (we need to check how it goes with the angles study)
  • Need to know:
    1. beam height
Final setup (Catania like):
  1. Lyso + collim
  2. Two Nai at 180 degrees
  3. New Beam Monitor

Hardware

  • New Beam monitor
  • 2 NaI detectors.
  • Collimator (slit)
  • 2 LYSO
  • Start Counter [we already have it]
  • Palettino before New Beam Monitor?

Night btw 21/22 july.

  • Run: data/MainRun_2107_113mm_run1.dat : verify the impact of changes during the afternoon. A channel from drift chamber is recovered. SC continues to give troubles. Proceed at really low rate (100 Hz daq). Access at 23:40
  • Run: data/MainRun_2107_123mm_run2.dat : SC continues to give problems. But now rate is higher. Run 2 is taken at 132.72 MeV (123 mm) (113_run2 is a typo)
  • 2:14: intensity is higer, now the transmitted intensity is 50% (before was 20).
  • MainRun_2107_123mm_run4 --> rate osservata e' 1kHz… --> 321k events collected (Si e' spostato di 0.5mm in x positive…. banana plot seems to be worse (dirtier).)
  • Going back to *20 intensity (ridurre intensita'), we go @ 125mm run5
  • MainRun_2107_125mm_run5 started @ 2:49
  • MainRun_2107_121mm_run6 started @ 3:39
  • MainRun_2107_129mm_run7 started @ 4:25
  • MainRun_2107_117mm_run8 started @ 5:15
  • Si entra per rimetterci a 90deg

DAQ

Checked that we can bring our WS1 for daq. There will be an ethernet connection from control room to hall: private network to connect to the WS1, and then we have a wireless to connect to outside. We will use a bridge for the acquisition (either usb or fiber).

signals we would like to acquire

  • 36 tdc times from beam monitor
>
>

DAQ config

  • TDC multihit ch 0-35: 36 tdc times from beam monitor

  • tdc and adc for the NaIs
  • Signals from machine?
  • RF or monitoring of position/energy
